A medium sized species producing a graceful, umbrella-shaped leaf to about 1.2m high. The stem of the leaf is heavily decorated with light spots on a darker Brown/Green background. The leaf remains above ground through spring and into Autumn when it dies back to the tuber. The leaf will re-emerge the following Spring.
When the tuber is large enough, it will produce the amazing bloom pictured. The inner spathe is overall burgundy in colour with an amazing hairy spadix! A native of Laos, this is an impressive species in both leaf and bloom, it is quite hardy in cultivation.
Am. laoticus produces elongated tubers that can reach over 60cm long, a deep pot is essential, or 100mm PVC waterpipe may be used as an alternative to a pot.
